- 2019, France
- Malbec by Padrillos
- 2020, Mendoza, Argentina
Wine notes without food:
- Chardonnay: Fairly acidic, and had a nice apple and lemon flavor.
- Rose: Similar to the Chardonnay in its flavor and texture, but had a bolder and more intense overall flavor. The aftertaste was more fruity.
- Malbec: A deep aroma, with notes of oak and leather. Very dry and tannic, with a slightly oaky after taste.
Wine notes with dishes:
- Chardonnay w/ Caesar salad: The creaminess of the dressing canceled out the acidity; had a sweeter and fruitier taste with the acidity taken down a bit.
- I found that the two paired very well
- Rose w/ potatoes: The sweetness of the Rose paired well with the saltiness and garlic of the potatoes. The blend of the sweet flavor, however, was canceled out when I took a bite of potatoes with ketchup. The ketchup nullified the flavor of the wine, and overall it was a better pairing with just the potatoes.
- I found that the two paired somewhat well, but could have done better if I had picked a stronger or bigger-bodied wine to go with the strength of the garlic
- Malbec w/ ribeye: The grape flavor was bold and potent along with the richness and hardiness of the ribeye. The two matched in flavor intensity just like we talked about in the wine IQ's, and each one complemented the other nicely. A big thing I noticed was that much of the tannic texture was absorbed by the fats in the meat, allowing the grape to sing through.
- The two paired very well together. The strong grape matched the rich meaty flavor.
